I love these photos from Thanksgiving weekend! With all the holiday business, I just haven’t gotten around to blogging them.
It’s rare (well, extremely rare) that I find myself photographing teenagers, and I welcomed the opportunity to work with this family and their 3 teen girls. The oldest is in her first year of college, far away across the country, so we had to sneak in a little session over Thanksgiving when they were all together.
A little of my personal background with them – when I was little (really little – I’m talking a baby to age 7), I lived on the best street in the world for a kid. A dead end street, with lots of children, lots of fun parents, and some grandparent types, too, who would hand out candy and popcycles if you went to visit them. I spent that time outside and barefoot, riding bigwheels and the occasional sled, playing whiffleball in a front yard until the sun went down, and loving my neighbors. In the earliest part of those years, this mom here was my next door neighbor – the oldest of 3 girls herself (3 then, it was eventually 4 girls.) Her youngest sister was one of my playmates, and their parents were some of my other parents on the street – some of the many that watched out for all of us. My first word came when I pointed to their basset hound, Molly, and said “dog”.
There’s something special about getting together with those people who knew you from babyhood. And I always look forward to seeing this lady now, as the fun, laughing, and warm adult she’s become. And these are terrific – I had such fun with all of them. And my favorites here are of them all laughing together.
Here’s a selection of some of the photos – from a beautiful fall day!
