Princes and Princesses for M

Valentine’s Day seems an appropriate time to post this preview from this little girl’s 1st birthday party, as she was obviously so well loved!

There were crowns for princes and princesses, face-painting, story-telling, Cinderella and a pony!  Beautiful party, beautiful birthday girl, good friends and family – what more do you need?  Happy birthday, Miss M!

a winter day with the “D” family

During the business of the fall season, I was contacted by a young lady who wanted to give her parents the gift of a portrait session of their family.  What a great idea!  I don’t know the last time my family was photographed together – trying to get my parents in front of the camera isn’t easy, and I admit, I’m not so good about it these days myself.  I wish we had more of us before we had gone in different directions, and I wish I knew in my twenties how good photos of myself then would look to me now!  😉

Some of these of the brother-sister interaction remind me of some I had with my sister and brother years ago.  My mom was taking our photo before I went back to college the Thanksgiving break, and she had to go back in the house to get more film.  (Remember that?)  While we waited, my siblings and I took goofy photos of ourselves with my little point-and-shoot camera.  Me on my sister’s back, my brother and sister doing my mom’s favorite “throw your head back over your shoulder” pose, my brother holding me in front of him, looking like a vein was about to pop in his head from the strain of it.  Those are still some of my favorites – I love some playful interaction to remember those days.

Thank you, D family!  It was so great to meet you all!

These pictures are so beautiful. You can see the love that this family shares. I was so touched. I’m Joe’s little sister and he is my favorite brother.

Teens! And memories of old faces.

I love these photos from Thanksgiving weekend!  With all the holiday business, I just haven’t gotten around to blogging them.

It’s rare (well, extremely rare) that I find myself photographing teenagers, and I welcomed the opportunity to work with this family and their 3 teen girls.  The oldest is in her first year of college, far away across the country, so we had to sneak in a little session over Thanksgiving when they were all together.

A little of my personal background with them – when I was little (really little – I’m talking a baby to age 7), I lived on the best street in the world for a kid.  A dead end street, with lots of children, lots of fun parents, and some grandparent types, too, who would hand out candy and popcycles if you went to visit them.  I spent that time outside and barefoot, riding bigwheels and the occasional sled, playing whiffleball in a front yard until the sun went down, and loving my neighbors.  In the earliest part of those years, this mom here was my next door neighbor – the oldest of 3 girls herself (3 then, it was eventually 4 girls.)  Her youngest sister was one of my playmates, and their parents were some of my other parents on the street – some of the many that watched out for all of us.  My first word came when I pointed to their basset hound, Molly, and said “dog”.
There’s something special about getting together with those people who knew you from babyhood.  And I always look  forward to seeing this lady now, as the fun, laughing, and warm adult she’s become.  And these are terrific – I had such fun with all of them.  And my favorites here are of them all laughing together.

Here’s a selection of some of the photos – from a beautiful fall day!

baby E, 8 days old

I got to meet a brand new face during my Christmas break!  This baby girl was so excited for the holiday, that she made an early entrance and got here just before instead of a little after.  An exciting Christmas for this family!

Here’s a little peak of Miss E, only 8 days old.  Welcome, little one!

such a sweet baby and precious photos. Love sessions in people’s homes rather than a studio. It’s so much more personal.

[…] amazing how one year flies by for me, but how it brings so much change for a little one.  You can see her newborn session here – for a little before and after […]

4.5 months, going on handsome

I took newborn pictures of this beautiful child, and got to go back for a 2nd round in December!  He was 4.5 months, and had grown so much!

I love it when they start grabbing their feets.   I put in a few toes photos here, but I have even more of them…  I can’t help myself.
You can see a preview of his newborn session here.  I just looked back at it myself; I think it’s impossible to pick the cutest age – they’re all pretty great in their own way.
Thanks for having me back, H family!  Enjoy!
