A in Onederland

I have a spree of first birthdays to share this spring!  Starting with this one – This young lady is one of the happiest 1-year-olds I’ve ever come across!  Happy with all that is, but her cake.  The first cake – you just can’t predict how it’s going to go.  Some discover the deliciousness that awaits, some play with it – some react in fear.  (More for the rest of us.)

I had a wonderful time at her Onederland party; it was easy to see that she has a lot of friends and family around her that love her.
Here’s a look at the day; ending with the two grandmother’s together on the sofa when all are gone, just watching the slideshow of her babyhood.

Happy Birthday, A!  I hope 1 is good to you!

More Minis for May!

Officially announcing the 2nd round of mini-sessions for the spring…!

These will be in Atlanta on Sunday, May 4th.  They’re already filling up, so contact me at jennifer@jkriggsphoto to reserve a spot.  I hate having to turn people down!

I am still taking reservations for next weekend south of Atlanta, which you can see here.

The Atlanta round will also be to raise money for an orphan.  All for a good cause – you can help a child AND get some new photos out of it!
The hosting program is through New Horizons for Children.    You can see more information on their website; there are also some great blog out there documenting experiences families have had with these children.  Here just one, documenting a boy’s first time seeing the ocean – click here.

Thanks, happy spring, all!  Hope to see you in it.

Announcing Spring Mini-Sessions!

This is my first year including spring mini-sessions – I’m excited for some spring goodness!

These are once (now twice) a year deals – half the price and about triple the images, so I encourage signing up!
This year I was motivated into action by my sister and her family; they will be bringing an orphan from Eastern Europe into their home this summer, showing her an example of a family, getting her medical care, and hopefully helping her chances for adoption before she ages out of the orphanage.  So, there’s this 14-year-old girl out there who they have committed to hosting, but they still have to raise the money to get here here.  And they have a long, long way to go.  So 100% of the cost of these sessions will go to that expense.  When you email me to book your spot, I’ll send you a link to their page and you can make your payment there directly – all tax deductible.

These sessions will be Saturday, April 12th and will take place in my sister’s community – somewhere in Jackson, Locust Grove, Jenkinsburg, or McDonough.  If you know someone in that area, please help get the word out!
Morning spots will begin at 8:30, and afternoon spots will begin at 4:00.
Oh, and we will have bunnies on April 12th!  Who doesn’t love bunnies??!

Stay tuned for a 2nd announcement for mini’s here in Atlanta on May 4th…  🙂

happy birthday to me

Seeing as how we’re having one more (one more – that’s what I’m going with) winter evening right now, I thought I’d post a few personal photos from another winter day in January.

This one happened to be my birthday, and in celebration of that glorious day, my sister asked me to babysit her middle child, my very adorable, sweet, and sometimes mischievous niece, Lilly.  (Although on this day she was all sweetness.  I think she was surprised to see me in my home and not at my parents house, where we would usually meet, and which is much more familiar surroundings for her. )

So, she dropped her off and I took her to a playground near by.  (One that keeps it simple and modern with the equipment, and we had to work together to figure some of it out).  There were a few other families there together, and the youngest among them was a little boy not much bigger than my 2 1/2 year old.  Unfortunately, he was not interested in playing with her; when she walked up to him and stared (as is her greeting with new folks she’s interested in), he tackled her and ground her face into the dirt until he was pried off of her back.  And you know what this means?  This means we go get cupcakes!  Well, first we brush off and spit out dirt to show that we are ok, and play some more, and then we go get cupcakes.  I let her pick out her own (yellow, which was lemon), got one for myself, and one extra in case she didn’t like the lemon.  Can you tell that she asked to hold her cupcake in the car on the way back?  It was about a 3 minute drive, and it was enclosed in the case, but about half way home I heard, “Uh-oh.  Top came off.”  This accident had been preceded by the sound of little hands clasping doggedly at plastic.

It was then time for both a nap and for her to be picked up, but neither of these happened.
While I tried to get her to lay down, she gazed out of my window, fogging up the glass, and pleading to go outside.  It was getting dark, and so SO cold, and she didn’t have gloves, or the warmest coat – but how could I resist this face?  So we went for a walk in the city.  And the sunset light is my favorite light, cars in the background or no.  I eventually had to insist that we turn back, and that is where she is turned around gazing out into the distance, knowing we’re going to go back but wanting more.  She’s the explorer.  Her sister would have been content indoors, but not this one.  Always happiest outside for her, cold or no.

Lovely company for my birthday afternoon!  And she gave me a new birthday greeting to use, “Happy Body!”
Happy body, folks.

At home with Family L

I met this family over this fall’s mini-sessions, and we met up again to capture some moments of them in their home!
There’s always something extra sweet about being at home, comfortable and in bare feet, and surrounded by your own familiar childhood things.  This little girl busted her lip and nose just before I arrived, and was so tough!  I love the one of her showing off her muscles.  I also love these with their family dog, who was so patient and gentle.

Thanks for having me in your home, L family!  Here’s a preview from our session:
