I’ve had a spike in newborn requests this spring, and while capturing them and their family in their every day routine is something I know, I’ve found that the concept of taking the newborn and positioning them on their own always makes me hesitate a bit. It’s not that I’m uncomfortable with the babies themselves, it’s more that in real life, you don’t just go around putting your hands all over a stranger’s child, much less say, “You know, I’d really rather his head be turned this way”, and then crank that guy around.
So after some good friends welcomed their first child recently, I said something like, “Hey, I know you’re not really “baby in a basket” kind of people, but can I come over and make your baby a model in whatever ways I want to, just for the sake of more experience taking over somebody else’s tiny baby?”
And because they are fantastic people, they said “Sure!”
And with that, the hesitation was gone, and it was so much fun to play with this little one. We were battling some end-of-day dying light, and I crowded him into a corner where his dad was trying to work, so we didn’t go into too much variety, but we did get some tiny smiles.
I’ve known his parents for a long time now, and have been so excited to meet H! Here he is, in a basket that usually hold’s his mama’s handbags. 🙂
[…] H is 3 months old! And my, how he has grown. You can see him here at only 2 weeks. Since then he has eaten, slept, and eaten. I think he’s storing up for all the energy […]
