My sister and nieces are on spring break this week (even the not-quite 2-year-old has spring break, it seems), and I was fortunate enough to get to spend some time with them this year.
While they didn’t get to go anywhere, they did get to come to downtown Atlanta, and Sara Beth even got to bring a friend for slumber party at Mimi’s house. We went to see the Broadway tour of Mary Poppins, and I can tell you that it is not so short and sweet as the movie. For two first graders, a play that started at 8 p.m. was a bit difficult for them to get through. And then we had to be up bright and early the next morning for a trip to the Aquarium so we could make the dolphin show (which was terrifying to the toddler).
We were like sardines at the Aquarium; it felt like all of Georgia was there for spring break. But just before we were about to leave there was a request for the jelly fish, I think she really liked them…
Of course, it’s not always convenient to lug a camera around. Especially when you have a toddler that wants to be carried – except for when she wants to be darting through the crowd, running away with something plucked from a shelf at the gift store. And I didn’t want to take my camera with me to the play, and have to hold it in my lap. Besides, sometimes you just want to enjoy the moment. So I wanted to mention that there’s nothing wrong with relying on your phone for some photos these days! It’s small and always with you. And the apps can make it fun. I like Hipstamatic. Has the look of an old camera and gives you some lens and film options.
So I had just a little something to remember the girls at Mary Poppins by. When they were hyped up before the show. Quite in contrast to being limp and asleep in the back of my car afterwards…
